Bodega El Grifo (San Bartolomé)

The oldest winery in the Canary Islands and among the oldest in Spain, officially established in 1775 but with a winemaking history on the site dating to the early 17th century. Located in Lanzarote's La Geria wine region, Bodega El Grifo is a museum-winery where visitors can tour the historic cellars, the original volcanic stone lagar (grape press) dating from 1775, and the modern production facility. The tasting room offers flights of their best wines including Malvasía Volcánica dry white, their signature sweet wine Canari (made from Malvasía grapes using a solera system since the 19th century), and Listán Negro red. Wine tastings from €8–€25 include local cheese pairings. The on-site wine shop sells the full range including limited edition vintages. The winery also features a wine museum (Museo del Vino) documenting the unique viticulture of Lanzarote's volcanic landscape. The iconic black-grille (grifo) gate at the entrance is a landmark. The estate vineyards surrounding the bodega showcase the traditional funnel-hole (hoyo) vine-growing technique. Open daily 10:00 AM–6:00 PM. Guided tours available in English, Spanish, and German.
