La Geria Wine Region

The unique vineyard landscape of central Lanzarote, where vines grow in individual circular pits (zocos) dug through black volcanic lapilli (picón) to reach fertile soil beneath. Each vine is protected by a semicircular stone wall (socos) against the constant trade winds. This viticulture method — developed after the 1730s eruptions — covers over 5,200 hectares and yields distinct mineral wines, predominantly white Malvasía Volcánica grapes. Over 20 bodegas offer tastings along the LZ-30 wine route, including Bodega La Geria (oldest, founded 1890), Bodegas Rubicón, and Bodega Stratvs.
