Punta de Teno & Lighthouse

The westernmost point of Tenerife, located at the tip of the Teno Massif within the Teno Rural Park. A narrow, winding road (TF-445) leads to the Punta de Teno lighthouse, perched on dramatic cliffs with spectacular views across the water to the island of La Gomera (just 30 km away) and back along the Los Gigantes cliffs to the south. The area is known for crystal-clear waters, excellent snorkelling, and feeling of remoteness. Access is now restricted to protect the fragile environment — on weekends and holidays, the road is closed to private vehicles and a shuttle bus operates from Buenavista del Norte (check current regulations before visiting). The lighthouse itself dates from 1897 (with a modern replacement tower) and stands at the edge of sheer volcanic cliffs. The surrounding waters are part of the Teno-Rasca marine protected area, rich in marine life including turtles, dolphins, and pilot whales.
