Museo de la Ciencia y el Cosmos (La Laguna)

One of the most engaging science museums in Spain, operated by the Canary Islands Astrophysics Institute (IAC) and designed specifically with families and children in mind. The Museum of Science and the Cosmos is located in La Laguna, a UNESCO World Heritage city, and takes a hands-on approach to explaining physics, astronomy, and technology. Nearly all exhibits are interactive — children can generate electricity by pedaling a bicycle, create tornadoes, experiment with gyroscopes, walk through a spinning optical illusion tunnel, lift themselves with pulleys, and play with sound waves. The museum's planetarium (additional €1) offers 30-minute shows projecting the night sky and astronomical phenomena with commentary in Spanish and English. The museum benefits from Tenerife's unique position as one of the world's top astronomical locations (the island hosts the Teide Observatory and the largest optical telescope in the world, the Gran Telescopio Canarias on La Palma). Exhibits explain why the Canary Islands have some of the clearest skies on Earth and how local observatories contribute to cutting-edge science. The museum is particularly suitable for children aged 5–14, though adults will find plenty to engage with too. The café overlooks the museum's central courtyard and serves simple meals and snacks.
