Teide Cable Car Upper Station

Arguably the most extraordinary sunset experience in Spain — watching the sun set from the upper station of the Teide Cable Car at 3,555 meters, Spain's highest accessible point. The 'Sunset & Stars' special experience (booked in advance, limited to 90 people per evening) allows visitors to ride the cable car in the late afternoon, experience the sunset from the La Rambleta viewpoint at the upper station — often above a sea of clouds that stretches like an endless cotton-white plain below, with only the peak of Teide and the neighboring islands of La Palma, La Gomera, and El Hierro piercing through. As the sun sinks, the sky transforms through impossible gradients of orange, pink, violet, and deep indigo, while the shadow of Teide itself can be seen projected for kilometers across the cloud layer — a triangular silhouette that is one of the most photographed natural phenomena in the Canary Islands. The temperature at sunset is near freezing (0–5°C even in summer) — warm clothing, gloves, and sturdy shoes essential. After sunset, an astronomical observation session with large telescopes follows (the Teide Observatory is nearby and the skies are among the darkest in the world). The cable car returns visitors to the base station by 9:30 PM. Tickets for the Sunset & Stars experience: €51 adults, €25 children. Must be booked weeks in advance. Not suitable for children under 8, pregnant women, or those with heart/respiratory conditions due to altitude. Regular daytime cable car: €37 (last ascent 4 PM, last descent 4:50 PM — does not allow sunset viewing). A once-in-a-lifetime experience for those willing to brave the cold and altitude. The base station has a café and parking.
