Playa de las Teresitas (Santa Cruz)

Tenerife's most iconic beach — a 1.3 km crescent of golden sand (imported from the Sahara in the 1970s) backed by the jagged peaks of the Anaga Mountains. While the beach faces east and does not directly face the setting sun, the sunset experience here is unique: as the sun sinks in the west behind the Anaga range, the mountains are bathed in alpenglow — intense shades of pink, orange, and purple that reflect off the calm waters of the bay. The palm-lined promenade and the brightly colored fishing boats in the little harbor of San Andrés at the beach's southern end add foreground interest for photography. The beach is protected by a long breakwater, making the water exceptionally calm and creating mirror-like reflections at sunset. Several chiringuitos (beach bars) and restaurants along the promenade serve sunset drinks and fresh seafood. Free parking (though very busy on summer weekends). A 15-minute drive from Santa Cruz city center. Best months: October–March for the clearest skies and the most dramatic cloud formations over the Anaga peaks. Combine with a walk to the San Andrés fishing harbor and the historic Castillo de San Andrés (a 17th-century defensive tower).
