La Geria – Cycling & Mountain Biking
Lanzarote is one of Europe's premier cycling destinations, with the LZ-30 through La Geria as its crown jewel. The island has hosted the Ironman Lanzarote (since 1992, one of the world's most challenging Ironman courses) and the Vuelta a España multiple times. The La Geria wine region offers smooth tarmac through an UNESCO Biosphere Reserve landscape of black volcanic ash, cratered volcanic cones, and semicircular stone walls protecting vines. The 45 km LZ-30 loop from San Bartolomé via La Geria to Yaiza and back is the classic ride (~500 m elevation). Timanfaya National Park boundary roads offer challenging climbs. Bike rental and guided tours available from Papagayo Bike (Playa Blanca), Pro Bike Lanzarote (Puerto del Carmen), and Evolution Bikes. Over 300 km of mapped cycling routes cover the island. Best riding: October–May (temperatures 18–25°C).
