Playa de Papagayo & Los Ajaches Natural Monument

A crescent-shaped cove of golden sand and crystal-clear emerald-green water, widely considered the most beautiful beach in Lanzarote — often called the "Caribbean of the Canaries." Playa de Papagayo is the most famous of a series of coves (Caleta del Congrio, Playa del Pozo, Puerto Muelas) within the Los Ajaches Natural Monument, a protected area of ancient volcanic massif dating back over 15 million years. The sheltering cliffs provide calm conditions ideal for swimming and snorkeling year-round. No development, no hotels, no restaurants directly on the beaches — they remain in a near-natural state. Access is via an unpaved road (entry fee per vehicle) from Playa Blanca, or on foot along coastal trails. Pack water, food, and sun protection — there are no facilities on the beaches. A beach bar operates at Papagayo in summer months. Nudism is common at the more remote coves.
