Jameos del Agua

A volcanic tunnel system formed by the eruption of the La Corona volcano approximately 4,000 years ago — part of a 7 km lava tube, one of the longest in the world. Transformed by visionary artist and architect César Manrique in 1966, it became the first of his iconic art-culture-tourism centres. The jameo (collapsed section of lava tube) features a natural saltwater lagoon home to the blind albino cave crab (Munidopsis polymorpha), an endemic species unique to Lanzarote. The complex includes a 550-seat concert hall carved into the volcanic rock, a crystalline pool, tropical gardens planted within the cave, and a museum of volcanology. The white-painted structures and minimalist design are hallmarks of Manrique's style, blending art seamlessly with nature. An on-site restaurant and bar complete the experience.
