Caldera de Taburiente National Park – Hiking

The world's largest erosion crater, an 8 km-wide, 2,000 m-deep UNESCO Biosphere Reserve (1983) and National Park (1954) with one of the most spectacular hiking networks in Europe. Over 100 km of marked trails traverse pine forests, volcanic ridges, and the crater floor. Key routes: PR LP 13 (Hacienda del Cura–Playa de Taburiente, 8 km through the crater interior), PR LP 1 (Los Brecitos to Playa de Taburiente, 14 km descent with ~700 m elevation loss), and the challenging Ruta de la Crestería (ridgeline route, 20 km around the crater rim, 1,200 m cumulative elevation). The Roque Idafe, a sacred basalt monolith of the pre-Hispanic Benahoarita people, sits within the crater. Facilities: visitor centre at El Paso, camping at Playa de Taburiente (permit required). Waterfalls and natural pools (Cascadas de Colores) reachable by trail. Best hiking: April–June and October–November.
