Marcos y Cordero Waterfall Trail (PR LP 06)

One of La Palma's most unique and adventurous hiking experiences — the PR LP 06 trail (also known as the Marcos y Cordero route) traverses approximately 12 kilometres through the lush north-east of the island, passing through 13 tunnels carved into the mountainside. These tunnels were originally excavated to channel water from the island's wet north to the drier south and west — part of La Palma's extensive network of water galleries (galerías) and canals that have sustained agriculture for centuries. The hike begins in the laurel forest near the Los Tilos area and traverses a dramatic landscape of ravines, waterfalls, and dense vegetation. The tunnels vary in length from a few metres to several hundred metres — some are straight and you can see the exit; others are curved and pitch black inside. A flashlight (torch) is absolutely essential equipment — hiking without one is impossible and dangerous. The trail features multiple waterfalls, including the Cascada de los Tilos and the larger Marcos y Cordero waterfall cascading down a vertical cliff face. The constant presence of water means the trail can be slippery — sturdy boots with good grip are essential. The route is rated moderate to strenuous and takes 5–7 hours to complete depending on the exact variant chosen.
