Cubo de la Galga (Ancient Laurel Forest Trail)

One of La Palma's most beautiful and atmospheric hiking trails through a dense, ancient laurel forest (laurisilva) in the island's north-east. The PR-LP 5 trail is a 10-kilometre circular route starting at the Casa del Monte visitor centre near Puntallana. The trail winds through a fairytale-like forest of giant ferns, over 100-year-old laurel and til trees covered in dripping moss and lichen, with occasional openings offering valley and coastal views. Rated moderate with approximately 400 metres of cumulative elevation change, taking 4–5 hours to complete. This forest forms part of the Los Tilos Biosphere Reserve core zone and is one of the best-preserved examples of Macaronesian laurel forest. The environment is often misty and damp — waterproof layers and sturdy hiking boots are essential. The trail is less visited than Los Tilos, offering a quieter experience. Access via the LP-1 and LP-102 roads with parking at the Casa del Monte visitor centre.
