Vallehermoso (Beautiful Valley)

A dramatic agricultural valley and municipality in north-west La Gomera, the island's third-largest settlement with approximately 3,200 residents across the municipality. The name "Vallehermoso" translates literally to "beautiful valley" — an apt description of this lush, green valley surrounded by volcanic peaks. The town features a central square (Plaza de la Constitución) with a church and traditional Canarian buildings. The valley is the agricultural heartland of northern La Gomera, producing potatoes, wine grapes (the island's main wine-growing region), and palm honey. A noteworthy landmark is the **Castillo del Mar** (also known as the Fortress of the Virgin), a 17th-century coastal defensive tower. The **Parque Marítimo de Vallehermoso** is a natural seawater swimming pool complex. Several hiking trails connect Vallehermoso to the Garajonay National Park, including the route to Alto de Garajonay.
