Category: must-visit-places 28°05'30.0"N 17°20'30.0"W | South-west coast of La Gomera

A spectacular coastal valley on La Gomera's south-western coast, composed of several villages — La Calera, La Playa, Vueltas, and El Borbalán — nestled between towering volcanic cliffs and terraced palm groves. The valley is the island's main tourist and alternative-lifestyle destination, known for its black sand beaches, bohemian atmosphere, and dramatic sunsets. The main beaches are **Playa de La Calera**, **Playa de Vueltas**, **Playa de La Puntilla** (central swimming beach with facilities), and **Playa del Inglés** (more remote). Since the 1970s, the valley has attracted a strong international community (predominantly German) seeking an alternative lifestyle. The area offers excellent hiking trails starting from the valley floor up to the Garajonay National Park, whale-watching boat trips from Vueltas harbour, and numerous seafront restaurants serving fresh local fish. The valley remains an important agricultural area producing Gomeran palm honey (miel de palma), bananas, and tropical fruits.
