La Mérica and Playa de Argaga (Remote Beaches of the South-West)

A series of remote, wild beaches and coves on La Gomera's south-west coast, accessible by hiking trail or boat from Valle Gran Rey. **Playa de Argaga** is the most accessible, a dark grey volcanic pebble beach with a natural setting backed by palm groves, reachable by a rough track. **La Mérica** is further and more remote — a pristine black sand cove popular with naturists, requiring a hike of approximately 45 minutes from the road. **Playa del Inglés** in Valle Gran Rey itself is a small, scenic black sand beach with dramatic rock monoliths standing in the water and is known as a clothing-optional beach. These beaches are completely unspoiled with no facilities — visitors must bring water and supplies. The area's strong Atlantic currents make swimming dangerous at some coves — always check local conditions and never swim alone at remote beaches. The coastal path connecting these coves offers spectacular views of the cliffs and the Los Órganos area in the distance.
