Mirador de Abrante

La Gomera's most audacious viewpoint — the Mirador de Abrante features a 7-meter-long glass-floored balcony that juts out over a sheer cliff 620 meters above the village of Agulo, offering the sensation of floating above one of the Canary Islands' most beautiful coastal panoramas. Opened in 2019, this modern architectural intervention (designed by architect José Luis Bermejo) adds a thrill-factor to the sunset experience: stepping onto the transparent floor and looking straight down through the glass at the village, terraced fields, and ocean far below. The view extends across the Atlantic to the silhouette of Tenerife and Mount Teide on the horizon — at sunset, Teide's 3,715-meter peak is often silhouetted against the orange-and-pink western sky, with the sun setting to the right of the volcano. The village of Agulo — known as 'the green balcony' of La Gomera for its lush terraced fields — spreads below like a toy village. The viewpoint includes a small café serving drinks and local snacks (the terrace has equally spectacular views for those who prefer not to walk on the glass). The glass balcony has a weight limit and is monitored by staff; there may be a short queue at peak sunset times. Access to the mirador is free; the glass balcony has a small entry fee (approximately €1–2). Open daily 10 AM until sunset (closing time varies by season — check locally). The mirador is a 30-minute drive from San Sebastián via the GM-1 road. Combine with a pre-sunset explore of the charming village of Agulo and the nearby Juego de Bolas Visitor Center (a beautiful Canarian mansion with botanical gardens).
