Category: sports-and-activities 27°49'22.8"N 15°25'55.2"W | East coast, Santa Lucía de Tirajana

The Mecca of world windsurfing. Pozo Izquierdo has hosted the PWA Gran Canaria Windsurfing World Cup every July since 1989 — the longest-running PWA event in history. The "Venturi effect" created by the island's mountains accelerates trade winds to 30–50 knots, producing world-class wave sailing conditions. Pozo is known for the "Pozo wall" — powerful shorebreak waves that allow massive aerial maneuvers. Multiple international champions train here including the Moreno twins, Björn Dunkerbeck, and Philip Köster. Surf schools: René Egli Windsurfing Center (the world's largest, established 1987), Club Mistral, Pro Center. Equipment rental available (windsurf, kitesurf, wingfoil). Spectator viewing from the beach is free and spectacular.
