The 3.1 km urban beach offers two distinct sport zones. La Barra, a natural volcanic rock barrier, creates calm lagoon-like waters ideal for snorkeling — over 170 marine species visible in the rock pools, including parrotfish, octopus, moray eels, and wrasse. La Cícer section at the south end is a surf break popular with local surfers (right-hand reef break, best at mid-to-high tide with N/NW swell). Multiple surf schools and snorkel equipment rental shops line the promenade: Ocean Side, Mojo Surf, Las Canteras Surf School. The beach's consistent conditions make it suitable for beginners year-round. The annual Las Canteras SUP (stand-up paddleboard) championship runs each summer. Water temperature: 19–24°C year-round.
