Teror (Picturesque Mountain Town)

One of the most beautiful and historically significant towns in Gran Canaria, situated in the lush green hills of the north at 543 metres elevation. Teror is the island's primary religious pilgrimage site, centred around the Basílica de Nuestra Señora del Pino (Basilica of Our Lady of the Pine) — the patron saint of Gran Canaria — built in 1767 on the site where the Virgin Mary is said to have appeared in a pine tree in 1481. The main pilgrimage (Fiesta del Pino) takes place each September, drawing thousands. The town features immaculately preserved Canarian colonial architecture with traditional wooden balconies, cobblestone streets, and pastel-coloured houses. Teror is famous for its chorizo de Teror (a local cured sausage) and its traditional pastries. The Sunday market (Mercadillo de Teror) is the island's most popular artisan market, selling local products, crafts, and food. The surrounding area offers several walking trails through pine forests and farmland. Teror is 20 km from Las Palmas (accessible by Global bus 216).
