Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (Capital City)

The co-capital of the Canary Islands and the largest city in the archipelago with approximately 380,000 residents. Las Palmas offers a unique blend of historic charm and modern cosmopolitan life. Beyond Vegueta and Triana, the city features the Parque de Santa Catalina — the social hub near Las Canteras beach, surrounded by bars, restaurants, and the Elder Museum of Science and Technology. The Puerto de la Luz (Puerto de Las Palmas) is one of the most important Atlantic ports for freight, fishing, and cruise ships — it was a critical coaling station for transatlantic shipping. The city is the birthplace of renowned writer Benito Pérez Galdós (1843–1920), and his former home is now the Casa-Museo Pérez Galdós. The Alfredo Kraus Auditorium, named after the famous tenor, hosts classical music concerts overlooking the Atlantic. Las Canteras beach runs along the entire western edge of the city's isthmus. The annual Las Palmas Carnival (February/March) is one of the most vibrant in Spain, second only to Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
