Jardín Botánico Canario Viera y Clavijo

The Canary Islands' premier botanical garden, also known as the Jardín Canario, spanning 27 hectares in the hills of Tafira Alta, about 10 km from Las Palmas. Founded in 1952 by Swedish-born botanist Erik Ragnar Svensson, the garden showcases the complete flora of the Canary Islands across different ecological zones — from coastal succulent scrub through laurel forests to high-mountain vegetation. Over 600 endemic Canarian plant species are represented, alongside sections dedicated to Macaronesian flora (Madeira, Azores, Cape Verde) and a large cactus and succulent garden with species from around the world. The Dragon Tree Walk features impressive specimens of Dracaena draco. The garden includes a research centre and herbarium. Free entry, open daily. The site is particularly beautiful in spring (March–May) when many endemic species are in bloom. The garden is accessible via Global bus routes from Las Palmas.
