Palmitos Park (Maspalomas)

Gran Canaria's most popular family attraction, a 20-hectare subtropical botanical and zoological park nestled in a dramatic palm-filled canyon just inland from Maspalomas. Palmitos Park combines a botanical garden (over 1,000 palm tree species, 160 cactus species, orchid house) with a substantial animal collection. The park's signature attraction is the dolphin show in a lagoon amphitheater with spectacular canyon views. Additional animal exhibits include a large walk-through butterfly house (one of the largest in Europe, with free-flying tropical butterflies), an exotic bird show (free-flight macaws, cockatoos), a reptile house (Komodo dragon, snakes, iguanas), a meerkat enclosure, and a primate island. The penguinarium and aquarium section includes touch-pool encounters. The park's layout follows the natural contours of the canyon, making for a scenic but hilly walk — wear comfortable shoes and bring water. Facilities include two restaurants, a snack bar, baby-changing rooms, and a gift shop. A free shuttle bus operates from major resorts in the Maspalomas area. Open daily from 10 AM. The park is beautifully landscaped and offers plenty of shaded areas, making it manageable even on hot days. Best for families with children aged 3–14.
