A historic 1891 modernist iron-and-glass market building designed by French architect Gustave Eiffel's studio, located in the La Isleta district near Las Canteras beach. Transformed into a vibrant gourmet food hall, the Mercado del Puerto combines traditional market stalls with tapas bars, gourmet food counters, and wine bars. Visitors can sample the best of Gran Canaria's gastronomy in one venue: fresh grilled seafood (pulpitos, gambas al ajillo, chipirones), local cheeses (Queso de Flor de Guía, awarded PDO status), Iberian ham carved to order (Carrasco Ibéricos), artisan pastries, and Canarian wines by the glass. The evening atmosphere draws a lively mix of locals and visitors. Specialties include the La Casa de las Locas gourmet tapas bar and Mercado Marinero seafood stalls. Open Monday–Saturday 7:00 AM–2:00 PM for fresh produce market; the gastronomic bars operate until late evening (some until midnight Thursday–Saturday). One of the best introductions to Gran Canaria's food culture.
