Pico de la Zarza (Highest Point of Fuerteventura)

The highest point of Fuerteventura at 807 metres above sea level, located in the Jandía Natural Park on the southern peninsula. A well-marked hiking trail starts from Morro Jable, covering approximately 14 km round trip. The ascent takes you through arid volcanic landscapes with endemic flora including cardones (Canary Island spurge) and tabaibas. From the summit, on clear days, you can see the entire Jandía Peninsula, much of Fuerteventura, and across the water to Gran Canaria. The trail is demanding in terms of length and sun exposure — start early (before 7 AM in summer), bring at least 2-3 litres of water per person, sun protection, and sturdy footwear.
