Fuerteventura

Category: must-visit-places 28°40'48.0"N 14°00'36.0"W | North-west coast

A former fishing village turned laid-back resort on the north-west coast of Fuerteventura. El Cotillo is famous for its dual coastline character: to the north are the spectacular surf beaches with Atlantic waves attracting surfers from around the world, while to the south are the calm, protected lagoons of Playa de la Concha and Playa de los Charcos — shallow, crystal-clear pools ideal for swimming and families. The old harbour area retains its traditional charm with excellent seafood restaurants serving the day's catch. The 17th-century Castillo de El Tostón (Torre de Nuestra Señora del Pilar y San Miguel) is a well-preserved defensive tower with an art gallery inside. Sunset views from the harbour are among the best on the island.
