Calderón Hondo (Volcanic Crater)

A remarkably well-preserved volcanic crater near Lajares in northern Fuerteventura. The crater is approximately 70 metres deep with a perfectly circular shape. A 5 km circular hiking trail leads to a viewpoint at 278 metres elevation, offering spectacular panoramic views stretching across Corralejo town, the dunes, the Isla de Lobos, and across the water to Lanzarote. The trailhead is accessible from Lajares village. Best hiked in the early morning or late afternoon to avoid intense sun. No shade on the trail — bring water and sun protection. The walk is moderate difficulty and suitable for most fitness levels.
