Timanfaya National Park

A UNESCO Biosphere Reserve covering 51 km² of Lanzarote's most dramatic volcanic landscapes, formed by eruptions between 1730 and 1736 that buried 11 villages and a quarter of the island's farmland. The Fire Mountains (Montañas del Fuego) still reach subsurface temperatures of 400–600°C at just 13 metres depth — demonstrations at the visitor centre (Islote de Hilario) include pouring water into boreholes that erupts as steam. A 14 km bus tour (Ruta de los Volcanes) follows a road through lava fields showing craters and lava tubes. The El Diablo restaurant uses geothermal heat for cooking. Over 2 million visitors annually.
