Caldera de Taburiente National Park

A UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and one of Spain's oldest national parks (established 1954). The caldera is a massive erosion crater — not volcanic — measuring 8 km in diameter with walls rising to 2,426m at Roque de los Muchachos. The park covers 46.9 km² of pine forests, waterfalls, and deep ravines. Key hiking trails: PR-LP 13 (La Cumbrecita to Lomo de las Chozas, 8 km round trip, moderate, the classic crater floor descent) and PR-LP 18 to the Cascada de Colores (Coloured Waterfall). Camping is allowed at the Lomo de las Chozas campsite (free permit required from the visitor centre). The park receives over 300,000 visitors annually.
