Los Llanos de Aridane
La Palma's largest municipality by population (approximately 21,000) and the economic centre of the western side of the island, located in the fertile Aridane Valley. The town features the Plaza de España with Indian laurel trees planted in the 19th century. Key attractions include the Museo Arqueológico Benahoarita documenting the pre-Hispanic Benahoare culture and the nearby Caldera de Taburiente National Park visitor centre. The town was affected by the 2021 Tajogaite volcano eruption (Cumbre Vieja), though the town centre was spared. The surrounding valley is the island's main agricultural area producing bananas, avocados, and wine.
