Valle Gran Rey Trail
A classic coastal-to-summit hiking route connecting Valle Gran Rey to the Garajonay National Park. The GR-131 trail climbs from La Calera at sea level to Alto de Garajonay (1,487m) — approximately 12 km with 1,500m elevation gain, taking 5–7 hours. The route passes through palm groves, terraced farmland, laurel forest, and finally the misty summit plateau with views across to Tenerife, La Palma, and El Hierro on clear days. Best walked uphill starting early morning to arrive at the summit before the afternoon clouds form. Alternative: start from the top at Laguna Grande and walk down, then take a taxi back up. This is one of the most rewarding day hikes in the Canary Islands.
