The most popular location for expats and alternative lifestyle seekers on La Gomera. 1-bedroom apartments: €300–€500/month to rent, €60,000–€120,000 to buy. The valley has the widest range of amenities on the island outside San Sebastián: supermarkets (including organic/health food stores), medical centre, pharmacy, restaurants, and bars. A strong international community (predominantly German, but also British, Dutch, and Italian) coexists with traditional Canarian village life. The La Playa and La Calera areas are most desirable for easy beach access. The valley has a distinct creative/alternative character not found elsewhere in the Canary Islands.
