San Sebastián de La Gomera
The capital and main port of La Gomera since the Spanish conquest, home to approximately 9,000 residents. The town is historically significant as the final port of call for Christopher Columbus before his first voyage to the Americas in 1492 — the Casa de la Aduana (Customs House) and the well where Columbus drew water (Pozo de la Aduana) at the Torre del Conde (15th century, the oldest military building in the Canary Islands) are key landmarks. The Parador Nacional de La Gomera sits on a hilltop with stunning views of the town and Tenerife's Teide across the water. The port operates ferries to Tenerife (Los Cristianos, 50 min) and between the western islands.
