Caldera de Bandama
A spectacular volcanic crater 1,000m in diameter and 216m deep, located just 10 km from Las Palmas. Formed approximately 5,000 years ago, the caldera is surrounded by agricultural terraces and vineyards. The main hiking trail (S-20, 3.5 km loop) descends to the crater floor along a narrow, sometimes steep path — about 1.5 hours round trip, moderate difficulty due to loose volcanic gravel. At the bottom stands an abandoned farmhouse known as Casa del Fondo. The adjacent Pico de Bandama (569m) viewpoint offers panoramic views of the caldera and coastline. The Bandama winery (Bodega del Monte) offers tastings of local volcanic wines at the trailhead.
