Maspalomas Dunes
A 400-hectare protected nature reserve comprising mobile sand dunes rising up to 10 metres, formed over centuries by trade winds carrying coral and shell particles. The dune field stretches from Playa del Inglés to the Maspalomas Lighthouse and includes La Charca lagoon — a Ramsar-protected wetland hosting 27 bird species including herons and egrets. Visitors can walk the marked trail from the Riu Palace hotel area to the lighthouse (approx. 4 km). Clothing-optional zone 1 is at the southern end near the lighthouse. Camel rides are available at the eastern edge. Strong currents beyond the reef make swimming cautionary — always check flags.
