Las Palmas de Gran Canaria

The capital and largest city of the Canary Islands, with approximately 380,000 residents. Founded in 1478, it is one of the oldest European settlements in the Atlantic. The historic district of Vegueta — a UNESCO tentative site — features the Casa de Colón (Columbus House), the 16th-century Cathedral of Santa Ana, and cobblestone streets. Las Canteras beach, a 3.1 km stretch of golden sand protected by a natural lava reef called La Barra, is considered one of the best urban beaches in the world. The port, Puerto de la Luz, is one of the busiest in Spain and a key hub for Atlantic shipping.
