Corralejo Dunes
A 2,600-hectare Natural Park established in 1994, featuring the largest sand dune system in the Canary Islands — over 10 km of white sand dunes and 8 km of pristine beaches. The fine white sand originates from crushed seashells and coral washed ashore over millennia. The dunes are mobile, shaped constantly by the trade winds. The beaches (Grandes Playas) stretch south from Corralejo with crystal-clear turquoise water famous among kitesurfers and windsurfers. Strong currents can occur — always check flag warnings. Parking is available along the FV-1 road with boardwalk access to the beaches. The park is crossed by the FV-1 motorway, with speed limits enforced to protect wildlife.
