Camino de la Virgen
A historic pilgrimage trail crossing the entire island of El Hierro from west to east, approximately 28 km from the Santuario de Nuestra Señora de los Reyes in La Dehesa to Valverde. The trail follows a traditional route used by the Bimbache people and later for the Bajada de la Virgen — a major religious festival held every 4 years (next: 2025, 2029) where the statue of the island's patron saint is carried across the island. The route passes through pine forests, volcanic landscapes, and pastures with views across to La Gomera, Tenerife, and La Palma. Rated moderate with approximately 800m total elevation change, taking 7–9 hours one way. Can be walked in sections. The trail is part of the GR-131 long-distance network.
