La Restinga

The southernmost settlement in Spain and Europe, located at the southern tip of El Hierro. This small fishing village (population approximately 600) is the island's main diving centre — the Mar de las Calmas marine reserve, established in 1996, is one of the best diving sites in the Canary Islands with exceptional visibility (often 30m+), volcanic seabed formations, and abundant marine life including groupers, barracudas, turtles, and whale sharks. The village has a small natural harbour with a black sand beach, several dive centres, and fish restaurants. The area was affected by the 2011–2012 submarine volcanic eruption (Tagoro) 5 km offshore, the first eruption in El Hierro in over 500 years.
