Tacorón

A unique natural swimming area on El Hierro's south coast near La Restinga, formed by solidified lava flows creating a maze of natural pools and channels. The basaltic rock has been shaped by the Atlantic into calm bathing pools protected from the open ocean by lava formations. The water is exceptionally clear and rich in marine life, making it popular for snorkelling. There are no sandy beaches — access is via ladders and steps carved into the lava. Limited facilities: a small parking area and no lifeguard — swim at your own risk when conditions are calm. The area is reached via a rough track from La Restinga (approximately 15 min). Bring water, sun protection, and sturdy footwear for the lava terrain.
